RACE N RIDE member Joe May gave me a great idea when we discussed how the hobby/ sport of muscle cars is perceived elsewhere in the world. Then I got to thinking, "Where is the exported American Muscle Cars from the last several decades"? So...I did some research and found some cool stuff.
Canadian Ebay let's you search by year, so I enterred 1955 -1978. It came back with 16 results. Below is an example.
- 454 4BBL, 4 Speed Manual
- 10 Bolt Posi
- Misc interior/ exterior finishes
The owner created a rating scale of 1-6 with 1 being excellent, and 6 being a parts car. They rate it a 3. Must be the Canadian verison of the metric system...?
The asking price is $30,250 Canadian, or $31,078 in US Dollars (at today's exchange rate). Sounds like a "Deal or No Deal" car.
I searched Ebay England and found that they have more modern American Muscle than old. Of course there are your vettes, camaros and mustangs, which are typically the most popluar. But I did find a 70 Plymoth Road Runner that was really cool.
1970 Plymoth Road Runner
- 440 4BBL (RWHP 559)
- Auto tranny
- Front disc conversion and a roll cage
The car looks really good, but I'm sure the cost to import MOPAR parts cost a fortune!!
The asking price (no bid) is $39,995 British Pounds which is $64,317 US Dollars. I can only image the cost of the gas that thing burns.
Right now "Super Unleaded" sells for 150 pence per liter. This equates to $9.00 US per gallon. That's an expensive ride to get a pint at the pub.
Finally, we'll go "down under'" to see what they have in Aussie land. It didn't take long to find some cool rides. On Australian aEbay, I found this 68 Mustang Fastback. From the pic,it looks like they're at a Nostalgia race (or something).
1968 Mustang Fastback
- After Market 5.0 L with Holley inj
- T5 5-Speed
- Claims to be a "C" code car
The owner also claims to have a 66 6 Cyl Stang Coupe, 67 289 Stang Coupe, and a 67 Barracuda Fastback (cool) for sale.
The asking price is $35,000 Aussie dollars which is $35,511. Its almost a dolar for dollar conversion but the value is probably not there at that price and at the level of having "just ok" mods completed.
So there you have it. A current view of what American Muscle is available around the globe. I can only imagine what "finds" may be lurking out there, but after so many decades, there may not be too many left.
The final conclusion is this; the best deals are in your backyard, or your buds unfinished project. They're out there, and we'll find them. It's our job to save the last of the remaining Muscle Cars. Fortunately, we have a new wave of performance rides coming out of Detroit. It's like getting a 2nd chance to appreciate what we had.....
